The Melting Pot

Tonight Steve hosted a company dinner at a fondue restaurant called The Melting Pot.  It was very tasty and a lot of fun.  I enjoyed meeting all the people there.  I didn't get to taste the dessert because I had to leave in time to take the babysitter home.  That probably saved me LOTS of calories!

More Family Room Progress

This afternoon I bought a paint sample and tried it on the wall.  It wasn't the exact color I wanted, but I thought it was pretty close when I compared the color chips.  Wrong!  This paint was way too yellow.  But, I still like my original color.  Steve did more filling then sanded and reprimed the crown molding so I may be able to do some trim painting tomorrow.

  The color in the photo is actually pretty close to what I'd like (the dotted color chips on the left).  It's much more yellow in "real life."

Soon I will be able to sit in my comfy family room and knit!

Family Room Painting

We started painting our family room this weekend.  I painted the ceiling today and am glad that is done.  We've lived here almost 10 years and are finally getting around to fixing up the family room.

Prayer Shawls

My church has started a "Knit, Crochet, and Pray" group that makes chemo caps and prayer shawls for people in need.  I have completed a couple of prayer shawls, using the following instructions:  http://www.shawlministry.com/instructions.html .  It has been a blessing to me to be able to knit shawls for people.  I may not be able to continue with the group, but I plan on continuing to knit shawls.

"Squiggle" purse

This purse was a big experiment!  I dyed the main yarn with Kool-Aid.  The accent yarn is Squiggle by Crystal Palace.  The handles were Cascade 220.  Aside from dying for the first time, I also created the purse without a pattern (for the first time).  I was please with the results.  (The purse still needs to be lined.)  Tip:  After knitting, I pulled the "squiggles" through to the front side.

First felted purse

This is the first purse I felted.  The pattern came from a yarn shop in Venice, FL.  I have been using this purse for seven months and it is holding up great!

Learning to Knit

When I was young my grandma taught me to knit and crochet.  I remember making a scarf while I was in junior high or high school.  It was knit with really large needles and two strands of red acrylic yarn.  As an adult, I would pull out my "how to" book and teach myself to knit again.  Then in the fall of 2004, I really started knitting.  I made so many scarves, I was getting sick of them!  I then moved on to making felted purses.  I really love doing that!  It's such a science experiment each time you throw it into the washer.  It feels like magic to me.
