Garden 2009 was not a success. There were so many bunnies and they ate our tomato plants several times. I finally put one more plant in and put poultry netting (I call it chicken wire) around it. We did have a few tomatoes late in the season. Those rascally rabbits even ate our asparagus plants to the ground. So this year we didn't have any asparagus. Some finally came up so I'm hoping we'll have more next year.
I don't know if more hawks have moved in or if some of the bunnies have moved out, but we are having better luck this year. We did get our plants in kind of late so we won't have tomatoes for a while.
Peppers and tomatoes then and now
I'm afraid that there is a little too much shade for our tomatoes so we've put in some in our sunny flower bed, too.The zucchini plants have gotten so much bigger!
But I think I am most excited about the cucumbers. We're growing them on a trellis this year and I like the way it looks.
Climb, cucumbers, climb!
And here is the most exciting part......baby cucumbers!
Looks good. Our horses got out twice and ate our corn

Mmmmmm, love cucumbers fresh from the garden ~ any vegetable fresh from the garden for that matter! Trellising them is a good idea. I'm trying peas in a hanging pot this year.

Good luck with your garden! It is so hard to find the balance with the animals, isn't it? I splurged on some deer repellent (cakes that are covered with plastic helmets and staked into the ground) after they defoliated my two brand new roses and ate all the tops off of the sea pinks. So far, it seems to be working, but I don't dare plant vegetables without a 10' chicken wire fence!

I'm jealous. My garden is way puny!
